Ok guys I have a 2021 Cougar with Mercury 300 Pro XS. I’ve tried 3 props and here are my numbers.

Fury 25 by Ronnie Gilbert. 82mph 6140 RPM

Bravo 1FS 28P 82mph 6130 RPM

Tempest 24P 78mph. Hit the Rev.

I would pick the one that lifts the boat best.  Toss out the Tempest.

This sounds as if the engine is a little too high on the transom plate. Most today have hydraulic plates and we would only raise it slightly. If your over 1/4 on the gauge we would think you’re possibly too high.
