props-not which one-just some help

have went to mercs pages to try to understand basics, got a mariner 175 on 99 sabre, with it came a laser II 25p. havent seen anybody (that i remember) talk about a laser. is tempest and trophy that much better???? or is one of these a “better” brand put out by merc? coming from a heavy 17 with a 115 so am blown away with what i have now on the holeshot but think i am “blowing out” around 63mph (boat feels like back end slides sideways for a split second-scare ya if your not use to it) . one reason to get a better boat was so i didnt have to watch everyone take off and then go, would rather be the one in front of the pack (i understand it is still up to me to catch the fish). this part of the site seems to get more feedback than the prop section. looking for basics of pitches and two major brands that everyone is referring too, thanks for the help.

The Lazer II is not a bad prop but it is the old Mercury prop. With technology advancements they have designed or came up with a better design and performance capabilities. It is like anything we buy with in just a matter of a few years it is out dated. The difference between Tempest and Trophy is one has three blades while the Trophy sports four. Really to be honest it is personal preference. If your prop performs well for you I would run it unless you want to come out of pocket several hundred. Another option is to send yours to a prop shop and let them worl it for you. They can cut and shave it, balance, cup it,blue print, and do just about anything you want to it that could save money but at the same time it can cost you if you know what I mean. The lasers will not run anywhere near as high as the current crop of merc progressive-pitch aggressive-cup props. They will go way up on slip at higher settings when compared to todays props. They wont hold as well in turns or in rough water.prop design has evolved since the lasers were introduced. I think I saw laser 2s in the early 90s at least, perhaps earlier… Ive never liked them.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

The usual reason for the tail to slip to the right about 10″ (feels like 2 feet or more) is that the propeller is too low usually and the rotating blade is not surfacing.Try raising it a bit, as long as you have hole shot. You can go to the newer propellers, and we are very aware of their efficiency as we worked on a few of them in project form. The best thing that Merc. has done to improve them is that they are able to watch them perform at very high speeds under water with varying loads. They can then tweak the area of the blade they see an inefficiency with and feather out an issue. We would not automatically switch to a Trophy or Tempest until we figured out whether or not raising your engine helps some. BCB

thanks for the input, will see if raising motor helps first and yes it did feel like 2 foot slide. wanting to get most out of it since i got it (wife said i reached my second childhood, just a boat instead of new car and dying my hair). looking forward to getting it right. thanks again.
