I’ve also heard really good things about the Garmin units, but I’ve never been able to see one in person apart from the simulator (which in my opinion is a “best case” and often isn’t representative of real on the water use with less-optimal conditions even with a really well-tuned unit, at least with other sonars I’ve used) the one thing I can’t find any info on is what their ability to network is—anyone managed to find info on this? I’ve been a humminbird user for several years and have found their customer service is pretty decent—certainly not as good as people say it is, but generally when you manage to talk to someone they do take care of you right. I figure any electronic widget is going to have issues at some point, so this is important to me and it’s why I’ve used humminbird and minn kota. However, I also have some garmin gps stuff and have found their customer service to be equally as good as Johnson outdoors, so if I could figure out the networking part I’d be looking hard at it if I were in the market.
