Proud owner of a new (to me) Bass Cat
After looking for over 2 years and to a large extent from comments on this board, finally bought a new to me Bass Cat. At first was going to buy new but just couldnt fit the price into my budget. Found a mint 94 Pantera II with a 94 Merc 150 XRI with only 72 hrs. on it that was in such good condition I couldnt pass it up. I mean this boat looks brand new. Was concerned about it being under powered but getting 59.8 GPS fully loaded at 5600 RPM with me (215 lbs) and my partner (probably 250lbs) with a 23p LaserII which Im happy with. Have seen 5800 with just me but didnt have the GPS at the time. She wants to start to walk at that RPM and Im seeing about 64 on the speedo which only seems to be about 3 to 4 mph happy, maybe less. Holeshot when loaded is a little lazy but with just me its fine. Motor is mounted on the third hole and it has the standard jack plate which I believe gives a 5 1/2 in. setback. Height seems about what is recommended for this combo using the Tommy Yetts method if I did it right so it seems like setup is right on. Im no speed demon by any means having come from a 115hp on my last boat but have read comments that imply I could do better than the LaserII. Im more interested in holeshot and rough water handling than top speed but Ill take the top speed if I can get it and certainly dont want to lose any speed. Was thinking a 23p trophy would be great on this boat, or at least better than the Laser II all around. Just wondering if the benefits if any of going to Trophy would be worth the cost ie. would the rough water handling and holeshot improvement be worth the price of admission. Any comments would be appreciated... CATatonic!!!
