A block of wood, a breakover or ratchet(1/2″ drive) with proper socket, and some muscle ! Always pull the kill switch, and be careful not to slip, props are sharp ! When tightening,,,,well get it tight. You dont need a torque wrench. D.
I dont like the idea of “just get it tight”. Cheapest solution is to buy one of the mercury plastic prop wrenches. It fits the nut properly and the handle will “flex” when the nut is tight enough. The reason I dont like “just get it tight” is that is too subjective. To one person, 10 ft-lbs might be tight. To my son, that might be 300 ft-lbs which can strip the nut.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
get you one of these. Its better than the block of wood and easy to keep in the boat for emergencies. http://www.basscatstore.com/index.asp?P … ProdID=587 I also have a long pull handle so that my fingers are away from the prop. used to use a shorter one, but 11 stitches later, decided the long handle is the way to go.
