Puma FTD – best hole shot prop?

Ive got a 26 Fury on my 09 CougarFTD. My performance experience is almost identical to yours. Hole shot with a load is pretty sad. With just me in the boat and no water in the live wells…it is awesome!

Prior to the introduction of the Fury prop most would use a 25 Trophy. Secondly I would choose a Tempest. Since both of you are using the 26p Fury and not happy with holeshots, then you should try a smaller prop…………………25 Fury or 25 Trophy.

Ive not had anyone suggest going to the 25 Fury or Trophy. Thanks! When Im by myself…which is most of the time, the 26Fury is great at the holeshot. But any kind of load and it takes forever for it to get up. I will try a 25 and see what it does.

Thanks Phil.Ive read other post and it seems the Furys are bigger blades and thats why they like to run deeper….is that true?Also what about a four blade prop? Would that be worth a try?

Would that be worth a try?25 Trophy is a four blade prop. Wont have the top end as a larger wheel, but should be good at the bottom end and may have acceleration similar to your current Fury. Never liked a Tempest (Mercury 3 blade) less than a 27″ wheel. Lose too much on top end from my experience. You have 4 options in my opinion if you want a better holeshot and concentrating only on holeshot.1) get a 25 Fury – most expensive option, but likely the best option for what youre looking for!2) have your current 26p Fury tuned for better holeshot – $200 – $3003) get a 25 Trophy – $250 – $300 used – you now have a back up prop or a prop that can be resold4) reduce the weight in your boat whether its tackle, gasoline, water in the livewell, or other unecessary items!As far as the depth at which a Fury likes to run……………….? Could be the size of the blades. They are not only wider, but longer as well! In addition, the prop weighs several pounds less than a stainless prop!

The Fury is not stainless? 2) have your current 26p Fury tuned for better holeshot – $200 – $300When you say tuned are you talking about blue plating (I think thats what I heard it called)? What exactly is tuning a prop and why dont the manufacturer do that? Do they do that while its on the boat or something?

It is not what most think it is……….. http://www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/comp/fury/A tuned prop is blue printing a prop plus the prop tuner can adjust pitch, cup, etc. to get closer characteristics that youre looking for. All boats, all engines, all anglers are different. There is no way a manufacturer knows how each individual unit will perform. It is not done while on the boat. If you were to choose to have your prop worked, it would be very important for you to tell prop guy its current characteristics (top speed rpms, top end speed, holeshot seconds, and any other details that may need to be known). You would also need to tell that person exactly what youre looking for. Ive had props worked before and I am pretty pleased at the results when I get them back. If you think you might want to try that option and you want to use my guy, let me know. If hes still working props on the side (retired) he will answer all the questions you might have.

I have a 26 and a 25 Fury that I run on my 2008 Cougar FTD with 250 ProXS. If I REALLY want the best TOP end speed in the cooler water temp months I run the 26. BEST all around performance for my setup is the 25 Fury. GREAT holeshot and only lose 2-3 MPH on Top End. Phils suggestions are right on. He KNOWS his stuff on these boats…especially a PUMA.Jmtfrisco, Texas

When loaded down, I raise the jack plate prior to liftoff, and drop it as the boat comes out of the hole. Solves the problem for me.26P Fury, 09 Puma FTD w/ 250 Pro XS
