The standard propeller placed on the 225 Pro XS is the 26 Trophy for most. You can have yours reset, though a 26 is better.BCB
I have posted about this topic on several other postings, and even lower down on this one. Far be it from me to disagree with BCB, but mine runs the best with a 27″ Trophy. I ordered mine originally with the 25″ Trophy. I also tried the 26″ Trophy, 26″ Tempest and 27″ Tempest as well, and the best overall performance has been with the 27″ Trophy (top speed, holeshot, mid-range acceleration, etc).I have a manual jackplate and it is up 1/2″ from flush. I run my rig full of fuel and tackle…Gary Hollander
TonyWithout knowing what your numbers are now makes it a little more difficult to say you need to do this or that. There are so many varibles that go into setting up a boat that there is not one particular prop, prop size, engine height, etc. that works for all. To make matters worse for setting up a boat is that some like a great hole shot while others like the last tenth of 1 mph. In this instance, one affects the other. Then there are those that want a combination of both. You can also get into steering torque…. some dont mind it, others cant stand it. Some run a lot of rough water, other dont have to worry about it. Then there are differences between exact engines, exact props, weight placement, altitudes, humidity, and so on. Not all are the same so what may work for me may not work for you. There is no consistent setup for exact boats and motors that perform exactly the same. Bass Cat does a great job at what they feel will best do the job “for most”.I sure would hate to see you have yours repitched to a 27 and it not be able to get to max hp rpms without added prop slip. This would ultimately slow you down. I do think a 25p is a little small for you engine all things being compared to most. You might want to borrow some props or do some swapping until you find what fits your personality. On the other hand, you might have your prop tweaked based on your present numbers and what you desire. The individual working the prop will need to know max rpms at wide open throttle, hole shot characteristics, amount of trim used at wide open throttle, bow lift, etc. There are several around the country and price ranges between a couple hundred dollars to $500.Hope this doesnt confuse you. Gary,We are not disagreeing, one of the shop tagged boats also runs best with a 27 Trophy, though most use a 26 for best performance. From a 25 to a 27 would be a large jump.Others prefer the 25 Tempest or a 26 Tempest, while another might (does) prefer a 27 Tempest. Though we also do not recommend that for most. BCB
i have a 26 tempest,i like a little more wheel torque than the trophy,i just have this 25 trophy to and it seems to be a little light, iam going to try to find a 26 and 27 to try, thanks for all the info, tony
i have a powertech 25″ on my new puma with a 225 pro xs it has too much torque, im jacking the motor up about an inch hopefully it helps. any suggestions? PJR
Merc. recommends the DFI / Optimax oil, I think you would be able to at least run the Tempest, even of the holeshot was bad you ought to be getting over 4800 rpms wide open. A 24 Fury ran well on my 225 optimax at 2400 feet above sea level, Im running a 25 on my 250. A 25 fury is usually the same rpms as a 26 tempest, if you cant turn the 26 you wont probably be able to run a 25 fury either. It sounds to me lIke youve got something else going on. I would find someone with experience to go out with you.

Yes, 24″ or 25″ Fury, the Tempest in 26″ is just a lot of wheel. They did run 26″ and 27″ Trophy propellers on many of those new, which was before the Fury was introduced.
I own a Fury 25, Tempest 25 and a Bravo I XS for my 225 Opti/Cougar. They are all new and have been B&Bd .The Bravo is clear winner on my boat!
For a great hole shot Bravo 1 XS or other 4 blades.http://www.mercuryracing.com/propellers/#outboard
yes- it is considered an optimaxyes- keep the jackplate and motor trimmed all the way down unless in very shallow waterdepending on the trailer ramp (shallow or ?) I would trim it up enough to still pick up water and have enough thrust to force the boot up to the rollers of courseI was told to run the mercury plus oil as the manual also states the same but it is a DFI motor so I switched to the DFI and will continue to run it. the DFI oil is brown whereas the merc injector oil and the lower oil is the same color just a bit different viscosity and I want to be able to notice a difference in oil color if a problem arises. Props–I have no clue
What is the biggest difference in the Bravo versus Trophy Plus props?Dan
Biggest difference, besides holeshot, bow lift, and speed? You can put your boat on the trailer with a Bravo.Trophy is small diameter, constant blade pitch, Bravo is large diameter, very progressive pitch. I have both and they run well on my Cougar but the Bravo will do everything the Trophy will do plus some.

Is the Bravo more suited for running on a 250 versus a 200?Dan
