The fuel configuration was reached to meet needs of those most common on usage and not overall tournament anglers. Most don’t need the 52 gallons and with 2 fuel tanks struggle more to keep fresh fuel today. Use of dual tanks vs. one large one gives a support almost as if for a reserve. Also is allows the sump to be open for access.
The configuration is one 26 gallon main and one 10 gallon “kicker” tank, as the reserve. This would give you roughly 115 miles at full throttle and 170 at maximum range cruise.
