PUMA STS W/ 300 XS Prop

Hey guys,

Im thinking of getting a 26″ Bravo XS for my Puma STS with a 300 Mercury pro XS. Currently I have a 24 Fury 3 and I can get 6200rpm(This is max/where the limiter kicks in right?) relatively easy. I fish Nor Cal exclusively, most of the time at Clearlake or Berryessa. My hole-shot loaded is usually not the best and I have been struggling with  bow lift and staying on pad/handling when Clearlake gets nasty, which is often. Ive read and been told a 4 blade will help with these concerns, and that I should still have plenty of RPMs to turn it. Im not a pro at prop knowledge and I am wondering if I am on the right track? If I lost a mph or two that would not be a problem with me as long as the concerns I mentioned were benefited from the 4 Blade. My other concern would be fuel Economy, would it be much better or worse with the 4 blade? Thanks to anybody who has any thoughts!

[Bass Cat Boats]

A 24” Fury is small with a 300 Pro XS on a Puma STS. Most run a 25” on that application. Be sure your PVS vents are open and some will run one or two holes. Almost all Puma STS models have a hydraulic plate, raising that helps hole shot, then lower it once you’re rolling as you go on plane. It will need lowered.

A Bravo will definitely help most on hole shot if that’s your goal. Fuel mileage won’t vary much either way and the Bass Cat hulls are more fuel efficient than most other brands. We would think a 26 Bravo to be large on the Puma STS and we have a 25.5 lab style we’ve run here. It’s not as quick and most here prefer the 25 Fury. We do recommend the 24 Fury on 250 models.

If you load heavy, run multiple front graphs, maybe a HB 360 or Target Lock system, and have Power Poles, then we do suggest a 23 Fury on 250 Pro XS models and 24 on 300 Pro XS.

I know this is a late and hopefully you have gotten your rig set up to your liking.  I have the same boat w way too many electronics on the bow and 2 8′ poles.  I have the 24 (all vents open) with  on 300 and I was getting very frustrated at my boat not getting on plane – horrible hole shot.  Tanner at Boatmasters showed me to start with a raised the jack plate and then lower it simultaneously while raising the trim on take off.  I couldn’t believe It made such a difference.

Sir, currently run a 2021 PumaHybrid/300ProXs, a 20’33” boat and not a STS like yours, 20’7”but close. Have a 25p PowerTech on it now and runs in the high 70’s with a great hole shot, unlike some of the information currently out there regarding the hybrid.
