putting gas into the 10 gallon tank on a Caracal

I tried to add some fresh gas to the 10 gallon tank on the port side of our '22 Caracal SP last week and it didn't want to take it. Tank was 1/2 full. It's got the same ballooning deal going on that's been discussed here on the forum but I've searched and not found a post about problems filling. Any ideas? The 33 gallon tank filled just fine the same day. Out here in California, purchasing any amount of gas can be painful but you shouldn't have to beg the boat to accept it at the same time, it just adds insult to injury!
