Question about Water Pump Impeller

Should you change your water pump impeller based on engine hours, yearly, or when pressure starts to drop

When pressure starts to drop is what some say. I changed every other season when I kept them that long…cheap insurance is the way I viewed it. Ones that are used more often are probably better off then the ones that sit. Judd Lasiter

If you fish a river system like i do then id change every year ! Very cheap insurance, and also service LU at the same time, along with fuel system. D.

and if you are one of those that thinks the lower unit is similar to a plow being pulled behind a tractor, and you like to dig up sand bars in skinny water, you might want to replace the water pump liner and seals as well, since sand eats them up… Merc makes a kit to replace everything in there…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Before you get to the tourney and see that it isnt working . Happened to me last time out. One of those, man I should get that replaced soon and “soon” never seemed to come around. So I had to do the whole day on the trolling motor. Now I will get it replaced every year. Like everyone else said, cheap insurance….Jason Desertdweller.com Get Your Bass in the Boat!

Thats a good question. I went 4 years without changing one back in the early 90s. I wouldnt worry too much about an impeller as long as the engine temp stayed well within range or there was no drop in water pressure. Your call though! Changing every year is a waste of money unless you run it dry on the ramp!

Come on up to Dardanelle every season Phil. Youll learn to change yours often too ! Especially if you keep finding those mud/sandbars like you been doin, D.

Nope……………………hopefully youll never see me changing impellers. Thats one of the nice things about getting a new one every year! A hydraulic jack plate also helps. You need to get you one of those.

I had an Evinrude 88spl that went 12 years without replacement of anything until the stater went out. That was the most reliable engine I have ever heard of.DESERTDWELLER.COM “GET YOUR BASS IN THE BOAT”
