Question for Rick–What prop do you recommend for my Classic/200hp Optimax?

Gary, Im in no means Rick but If you ask Sherm or one of the Big BCB dealers they should recomend one over the other. Id say the Fury in a 25pitch, do you carry Too much gear and always full tanks and livewells where youd need the Low end of 24p Fury? The Fury typically runs 1pitch lower than your Hot prop used before, so if your happy with a 25 Tempest then 24 Fury, if you need to get more Rpms then 25 Fury, but Id ask or call the Factory and Ivan probably knows the Trophy application, most like the Fury over the Trophy on most hulls. Gary, I have an 08 P II I am running a 26 trophy and I am getting 69mph, good hole shot, with a big load, full of gas, with 2 big boys(250lbs +) in it. Thats in this 95 degree Mississippi heat. Hope it helps you.

Gary, The real question is the engine and not the hull. That hull really likes a Tempest, and the Yamaha engine runs well with the Tempest. Though not all engines like a Tempest on that hull. For example the Evinrude we found likes a Trophy on a Pantera Classic, while they prefer the Raker II. Now for some reasons a Yamaha engine has always liked a Tempest propeller in some set ups. They just seem to run well with a Tempest in a lot of different combinations. These all vary based upon differences in weight, height and other factors. The Fury is a very user friendly wheel, and some prefer it. We have heard of lower 70s with a Fury, though we have not quite gotten what others claim on this application. The Trophy is the one I found best on those we have set up. The Tempest we have run ran well, though the other prop found a little more on the top and a lot more in the efficiency area. Seeing better fuel mileage and performance at varied RPMs. That is why we suggest a Trophy often on this set up. Though for the casual everyday angler who just wants a solid carefree use of the rig, a Fury is hard to beat. Hope you can use this to figure out whatever you are trying to achieve. Rick

I rig, set-up and prop my boats for the way I use them: (1) I carry a lot of tackle and gear so it is on-board when I want/need it; (2) I generally run 1/2 to full gas tanks; (3) I have a butt seat and folding seat on-board at all times; (4) I am now old and “full-figured” but still like to go fast.The performance with the 25″ Tempest is pretty good based upon my numbers Im getting. Great hole-shot, plenty of lift, eliminated the chine-walking, and still hitting 70mph on the GPS in the hot/humid air and water we have currently, and can hit 67 GPS with wife along.If I were to change props, I would go with a 24-26″ Trophy first; i probably could justify spending the cash for a 25″ Trophy. If I could get my hands on a 24″ Fury I would try it, but cant really justify the out-lay vs the expected performance improvement.Thanks for the feedback…Gary Hollander

Gary, I know my classic is quite a bit older than yours but I can tell you that it loves a 25 trophy. I would have thought you should go with the 26 trophy due to the fact that you have a 3.0 liter but running a heavy load you would probably really like the 25. I know you are already a fan of the Trophys as well but I just thought Id throw my 2 cents in. gary i run a classic but i have tried a fury great when your by yourself but with a load it falls off the face of the earth, no top end at all.i run a 27 tempest on a 3.0 liter efi little diffrent motor but i think the tempest will be your best bet like rick said good luck

Joe its hard to beat the Yamaha 25M on that setup. The Classic and P2 are the same hull. I would try the Fury however.

The 25m runs well since Yamaha allows more RPMs on the top end than they did before. Yamaha engines like a Tempest some also and they can run very similar to an M style Pro Series. Also a 3 ltr. Merc is very different than an Opti. Daylight and Dark!
