I have a 987C SI on a ram mount on my console, along with a Garmin GPSMap 232 flush mounted on the console. I also have a Lowrance LCX-19C and LMS-232 on the bow. None of these were on my boat when I got it and all have been specifically chosen because of things I like about them for the job I want them to do. Im also pretty tight and bought all but the LMS-232 used and for less than half the cost of a new one. The 987C SI I got strictly for the Side Imaging and that only really works when idling at 3-5 mph and doesnt do as much good at trolling motor speeds so I mounted it on the console to “paint” a target area, get a picture in my mind, and then stop and work it. I chose the Garmin because of the orientation of the screen, the ability to view the screen in any light and the fact that at night it doesnt light up like a searchlight even on dim and night view like the color units do. Plus Garmin still has the easiest to use GPS functionality of any of the three though it may not be as pretty. The LMS-332 is an awesome sonar unit for vertical and is still the best option for bow use. The LCX-19C is a big screen to show the high-def detail of the Navionics Premium maps in real-time.
