Question on gas additives

We like SeaFoam and Lucas also has an additive. SeaFoam is easy to find, Lucas is not as widely spread. Mercury has a good one if you can get close to a dealership, though it does cost a little more.

Are you near an Academy Sports? I buy all my Mercury additives there, Quickleen, Quickare, Quickstor usually 3-4 dollars cheaper per bottle than anywhere else

49 years in the automotive industry has taught me that there are only a couple of products that really get the job of removing water from fuel done . – Actually the don’t remove it , they just ” suspend ” it in the fuel with isopropyl alcohol , which mixes with the gasoline and passes it on through the engine without further trouble . — First one is ” ISO-HEET ” , and the second one is THERMO-AID . ( NAPA part #7100 ) The iso-heet can be purchased at Wal mart , or any auto parts store , and the Thermo-aid is a NAPA product . — Both of these products are exactly the same 99.9 % isopropyl alcohol , and either one works great .

Any comments on the blue Stabil product for ethanol containing gas. I believe it even says it is for marine applications. I’ve been using it for the times I can’t get to the non-ethanol gas station along with SeaFoam and have had zero issues. 2008 HPDI Yamaha 200.

I’ll check and see if it is also mostly isopropyl alcohol.

I like the Stabil brand because it once brought a lawn mower back from the dead for me.

I’ve used Biobor EB for over 5 years with no issues.   I did a lot of research on fuel stabilizers and Biobor EB was the best.  Just add more for long-term storage.   Will last 2 years if you use the recommended amount for long-term storage.

So far this year, I’ve only used Biobor, nothing else since I was told by several BASS pros that they don’t use  anything in tthe new Merc 4 stroke, not even quickleen.  I thought about using Yamaha Ring Free in my 4 stroke Merc since it did so well on my 2005 Yamaha 200….lol.  But seriously, not sure what I’ll run in it. My mechanic cautioned me on using seafoam.  Said it could gum up the efi jets if I added more than the recommended amount and that seafoam can also make starting the motor harder after long periods of not starting.  I’m not a mechanic and I know everyone has an opinion, so I stuck with ring free.

On a Merc, you can never go wrong using the cocktail that Don Weed has recommended for some time, and, continues to do so for the newer 4 strokes as well. 1 ounce of Quickleen and 1 ounce of Quickcare for every five gallons of fuel.
