Re-install Merc. switch and lights on 06 puma

Youll probably have to peel back some of the foam in order to get the wiring out. Otherwise, remove your old mercury switches and it should be self explanatory how to install the new one.

Thanks thats what i thought. Didnt want to start peeling something back just in case there was an easier way

Before you remove the merc switch (which might not be bad), check it with an ohmeter for proper operation. Same with the lights. They might not be bad and you might just have a loose connection somewhere. Just try to do some troubleshooting before you do work that might not be necessary. That merc switch is not the “weak link” in the circuit and is probably the least likely to be the problem. Im not saying that you dont have bad components but the most likely cause is loose connection or lost ground or broken wire etc. You need to try and troubleshoot the circuit if you possibly can. Good luck and this is only advice so you can ignore. Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!

Thanks guys I did do some ditective work and it was just a loose wire connection on both of them. Im glad cause the merc switches are wielded on and i didnt want to mess with that if i didnt have to! Now im all set for my club night tourny. Good advice! Thanks a bunch!!

The grounds are on the bolts (screws) that fasten the lids, and they can get loose with the hardware, carpet and foam. Then the connections loosen. The mercury switches can be faulty if they get too much heat and the solder melts when being welded on, though not often. Those can be dug out and replaced with a little forcing the capsule out of the aluminum pod. The new mercury switch must be inserted and glued in.

SoCal, it looks like you found the “weak link” in the circuit. Congratulations and I hope others have read this post and will learn from it. To all reading, the first step in troubleshooting is the “visual inspection”. That will often expose the problem as it is usually something simple that appears to be a complex fix. SoCal, we didnt want you to spend all day replacing all those parts and then find out that your lights still didnt work. Then you would have taken the next step and discovered the loose connection. Troubleshooting in reverse that would have been. Good luck in your tournament.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
