Remembering Doug Swann (Dbasketman)
You guys better watch out - Doug isnt the only one that can catch a fish! Here is a pic of mom this past weekend on a lake dad affectionately referred to as "the dead sea" (aka - Greers Ferry).Dad and I planned on fishing a tournament this past weekend but it simply wasnt in the cards. After much debate, mom and I decided we would go fish during the tournament and meet everyone at weigh-in (not competing). We take our time getting to the lake so its mid-day, we head to a spot that dad and I started on just about every year, and proceed to start fishing. Its a slow bite and mom proceeds to hang her sinko in every bush on the lake. Mind you, shes fishing with a spinning rod and a sinko because its the easiest setup in the world to fish with. Mom is a pretty good fisherman, just a little rusty, so inevitably wraps her line around the spool, makes a few loops in the line, and somehow ties a knot. Just like myself or brothers growing up..."Well, I really screwed this one up...here." I get the birds nest out of the reel, cut and re-tie the line to remove the knot, and proceed to unwrap the slack line from the seat in the back of dads new Caracal. As if that isnt enough, we are tangled up in the bush beside the boat. Here we are, about 4-5 minutes into this ordeal and we start reeling up the slack. You guessed it - fish on! Mom is convinced that dad put that fish on the end of her line and Im inclined to agree. Im also inclined to think he was screaming "SET THE HOOK!" Regardless, we had a great time. Moms face lit up with joy that we havent seen in a while and we made a new memory in one of the places dad will be missed the most. It did our hearts well.On a more serious note - the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund donated $500 from their bass tournament to Griffins Run in Dougs name (benefit run by Andy Graves family to helps kids with down syndrome). If you get the chance, you should definitely support these folks b/c they are excellent people and have a great tournament. Fishermen helping fishermen, and mom caught the biggest fish of the day... quite possibly the tournament. Thanks for all the kind words & prayers. Hope you enjoy the story. Tight lines, fellas. Jon Swann

Jon, Thanks for sharing! Your Dad gave me good advice several times on this board. I wished I would have met him but it was not meant to be. He will be missed and forever remembered.Dan
Awesome story. Never met him but he was a valued contributor to these boards and good friend to many it seems. Lost my Dad a couple weeks back, bummer, but I like to dwell on the good stuff also. My Mom was telling me about a shrub she had transplanted several years ago from his hometown. It bloomed for the first time ever last weekI dont think it is a coincidence.
He would always scream – “Well they aint got hands! Set the damn hook” Or “Set the damn hook and we can see how big he is in the boat”C.O.D. Jr. III
That is an awesome story. Good to see a smile on her face. I never knew him either, just always appreciated his participation on the board. I know he is smiling for certain.
Havent had a fishing day or tourney that I havent thought about him. I have been wearing a strike king hat in honor of him every time I go out. Miss him every time I go out. We have SBC at Dumas this weekend…wont be the same without him!

He was hilarious on that snowy day….glad he is still bringing smiles and memories of good times. Great story! 96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Jon, Glad you and Mom got to spend the day on the water. Thats a good one on Greers right now as stories are not great about events there. Be sure she knows how to handle that boat before the Tuesday night events start up this summer. She voiced some determination in getting that rig wet? God bless,Rick
