Replace Top Roller with Boat Buddy

I have not actually seen a boat buddy a the ramp, but did go to the web site to watch the video. It looks very intersting to me as well since I normally go fishing by myself. I would appreciate anything to speed up the process of getting off the ramp; especially if other guys are waiting.

I never had one but have seen them and heard stories. One it doesnt hold the boat tight to the front like a strap does, Its a Pin about 3/8″ that goes through the eye so the boat can move up and down some. Two I heard stories of the pin popping shut some how and then when the boat goes up into place it get ugly. Three I heard of the pin getting bent and not working at all or half the time. I dont think I want to get caught at the launch with any of these scenarios. JMHOpinion

Thanks topwater, Friend of mine turned me on to this as it was on his Mastercraft. I dont want to get caught on the ramp with any of those scenarios either. If I decide to try it Ill let everyone know the outcome.

I put one on my first Cougar and had to replace the boweye with theirs, which stuck out farther to engage the pin. The longer boweye hit my spare and blew out a tire, I took it off immediately..FWIW!! SAMBAYOU BANDIT

Friend put one of these on a Ranger. After doing so, he spent more time at the ramp trying to get the thing to lock, or trying to open it to get the boat off, than he did with the old strap and winch. I can recall multiple attempts to get it to lock, while others are at the ramp razzing him about holding up the launch line… For me, the strap has served well for many, many years. My dad had the rather old-fashioned approach of “if it aint broke, dont fix it…” And while that is not always the best path, it is a path that leads to fewer headaches sometimes. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
