Rub rail replacement question

Cotton, that is a considerable project and the mass number of mounting holes should all be filled with something before continuing an install. There are an estimated 200 mounting holes and this would mean the reinstall requires a total of around 400 now in your boat. It can be done thugh is discouraged for those just wanting to clean up the look. Go insert to clean the look up more. The opportunity to do a new install while retaining structural integrity in the outside of your hull extends to one replacement based on the number of holes. Which is why BCB tries to discourage installing new rub rail or removal. You simply run out of solid mounting surface as more holes are drilled. the old aluminum trim 25 years ago was much more friendly to installs and did not require as many mounting points as it was solid. Of course it was not as versatile or attractive. BCB

I had my local marine shop do mine and after it was done they said if they knew it was going to be so much work they wouldnt have done it! not like they did it for free. LOL its solid and i think they did a hell of a job! ups the look from the old rub rail and rope insert on my 99 PIII! not too mention it sticks out about 3/4 of an inch more.

I believe he is just talking about the insert for the rub rail. I believe that is a pretty easy install as it just pops in and out?

No I meant the whole thing. If its that much trouble forget it ill just do the insert. Hit it with a buffer removing a scratch and the pad kind of “burned” it a little but I can live with it.

You can bring some life back to the rub rail with acetone. You can also sand it with wet sandpaper in 400 to 1000 grit and hand polish it with heavy compound to restore areas. If its not damaged from impact and torn we would not replace it.

Between lock walls and cottonwoods and barge sides, i figure HCs rub rail is beyond buffing out- . Prolly needs to get the cobalt boats metal one? I got a video of that coming out of Mellwood two weeks ago. Not for the faint of heart. Ill load it later. And no Im no iaconelli at all. I take very good care of mine notice I said I scratched it with the BUFFER lol. Im like PA really we just have a lot of obstacles to dodge the way we fish here and Im constantly waxing buffing etc to keep the look. Wish we had facilities like Pendleton to Put in at.
