Sabre Performance – Still Chasing

Bass Cat Crew - I’m sort of at my wits end and need some guidance on my 2017 Sabre w/Etec G2 150. Started off running a 24 pitch Raker HO at 3.5” ptp , saw 60 mph, boat felt like there was more speed to be had. But the engine felt to low. Went to 3” ptp and a 25 pitch Raker HO saw 62.5 mph but ran into limiter issues, not low water pressure. Speed would have increased if I could have trimmed up more. I was about 60% on my digital trim gauge before had to stop due to high rpms. Went to 3.25” ptp with 25 pitch Raker HO and had to trim to almost 70% to get 60mph. Had a rooster over cowling high to get any speed. Boat felt “heavy” and not nimble at all. I’m not only worried about speed. Just want best performance, adequate water pressure, and under the limiter. Do I go to 2.75” and try to run flatter with less trim? Do I go back to 24 pitch prop and 3.5” knowing there’s more performance there but it’s not attainable? I just want to put the experimentation to an end. Appreciate the help….

3 3/8″ on the plate & remove as much weight in front of console as possible.

People, please, when tuning your boat just change one thing at a time. If you change the engine height and the prop, you have no idea what did what. Change engine height, run the boat. Check the engine performance in 1/8 or 1/4 increments. Once you figure out where that works, mess with props. Changing engine height 1/2 inch is a lot of movement. Easy does it.

Rich12 Engine height will vary depending on the prop being used all other things being equal-weight, location of the weight, wells, fuel, temps, humidity etc. Thus each one will have to be tested at various heights especially between 3 & 4 blade or Fury vs Tempest etc. Good thread for another post.

Rich12 , should have mentioned I have been making all the height adjustments with the 25 pitch prop only. My RPMs were a bit higher than I wanted them overall with the 24 pitch at 3.5” so I went to the 25 pitch, lowered the RPMs a bit and have been making height adjustments from there. Feedback I’ve seen is the Etec 150 HO likes to run high, which is why I went a full 1/2 inch to start. Based on feel it liked to be around 3”. The boat was responsive and agile. I just didn’t know if higher was better with the need for less trim to run flatter.
