Owner's Board

Sad day on Rayburn

I fished a district 119 ABA tournament on Rayburn on Saturday we went out of Jackson Hill I was pretty happy with 3rd place considering the local guys that showed up as usual took 1st and 2nd. Yes Phil your partner took 2nd and Sonny took first. Anyway now for the sad part. at about 4:30 am we were just getting up and there was a knock on the door. the tournament director informed me to check my boat because they had been hit / ripped off. Sure enough they made a cut at the front of the cover just long enough to cut the strap that runs under the rub rail and the cover was off the side of the port side rod locker. They unlocked the rod locker and cleaned me out of 15 rods and 10 reels. these were mostly Castaway rods. 6 Revos and 4 4600 C4s They hit 6 boats 3 at Jackson hill and 3 right down the road at some cabin were they were staying. in all the thieves made off with 74 quality rods and reels. One of the guys had all brand new rods and reels because he was ripped off last week in Pirates cove on Toledo bend, Im telling you these clowns knew what they were doing. they knew just were to cut the straps and they had keys they unlocked mine and left it unlocked. they unlocked and then locked my Buddys "He thought he was ok because his was still locked" when he checked the locker was empty. Another guy had different locks and they just pulled his locker open from the corner. all of these boats were within 20 foot of the cabins where they were staying. 2 including mine were under street lights. While filling out the police report we were told that this type of activity has picked up recently. I guess some type of alarm could have helped. I know some swear by locker bars but I have seen 2 cases in the past were the boat winch was hooked to them and used to bend the bar. We are living in a sad world when they steal your fishing poles. We were offered rigs to fish with by other competitors to fish on Sunday but we all just went home. yall be careful out there.
