Sam Rayburn Suggestions/Help Needed

If you want a lot of action just frog fish with a ribbit or a horny toad. Theres not much grass out deep at all. Look for pads or peppergrass. Maybe a light texas rig or senko.

Topwaters and sunscreen before the sun comes up at edges of grassbeds, pay particular attention to grass points near deeper water or creek beds. Soon as sun comes up, stell yourself for the heat and humidity. Try a wacky worm or Texas-rig at edge of grass for maybe first hour after sun comes up, then switch to spinnerbaits (color depends on water color and clarity) that can be slow-rolled along creekbeds near grass beds or stump cities. Once you get to middle of the day, dig out Rat-L-Traps and drag em over secondary points or ain points in anywhere from 9 to 15. I was fishing with that pattern on Big Sam over Memorial Weekend, weather pretty much like it is now, and had some decent success at least catching a few fish. Got a good 2-1/2 lb bass on the Rat-L-Trap around 10:30 one morning. Had to call it about an hour later though, big thunderstorms were building up towards Etoile and headed my way. Got back to boat ramp just in time. Five minutes after I loaded onto the trailer and got back to the house, the wind was hammering the lake with big whitecaps. Saw on radar today that Sam had some big thunderstorms go through up there. Gotta keep a weather eye out on that lake. Lots of folks have had swaped boats or have drowned in bad weather.Good luck with the bass and be careful.Best topwaters are pop-rs and heddon torpedoes right now. Too hot for buzzbaits unless youre on the water at about 4:00AM. Of course if you do that and fish all day, youll suffer when you get back to base and slow down for a minute. Better be in a comfortable place and have showered by then cuz youll be toast (hopefully not the burnt kind).Report back on your trip so I can fish vicariously until my ew Pua FTD comes in next month. I second what Traybird said, fish ribbits and weightless flukes shallow and you should get bit. There are some fish deep also on ledges, ridges, and brushpiles. Hope this helps and goodluck.

Phil is good on Rayburn, just the unluckiest ive seen on tournament day recently. But i think its got something to do with his culling system. All I can say is …………………….Well I wont go there! By the way, I didnt get to pay 36.99 to figure out that I could do 1 better than 5. It cost me several hundred plus what I could have won. By the way, Sam Rayburn is fishing about as tough as it has ever. You can run all the pepper grass along the shore and find a few or you can fish in 23 – 30 and search out the brush piles and catch a few. I chose the latter this past weekend and had fair success.
