Use only ABU Garcia Silicote reel oil on the latches. The ball in the mechanism gets corroded, and the plastic barrel around the tumblers becomes jammed, and the tumblers break the plastic barrel. If you keep them lubricated they never will break and the original boats came standard with a bottle of the reel oil just for this application.

My 88 model had these type locks though no plastic barrels. Maybe they wasnt that name brand. But was factory latches and locks. I always used ignition graphite lube. The boat had the original lock and lathches when i sold it awhile it in 2015. Through the yrs I found the graphite lube lasted longer. The barrels were originally in those locks. They cause the latch or lock assembly to jam when they split and some user removed the barrels when that happens. If you were not the original owner then there is limited knowledge of what widget was taken off or added to any product.
