screw stripped out

On my 06 Sabre, one of the screws behind the seat which holds the seat pan in place has stripped out.They are always coming loose and require frequent re tightening but i overdid it on one. What is the best way to repair the hole or should i just use a larger size screw?Thanks

Is it a sheet metal screw or machine screw? I had to remove the seat pan on my Eyra when I was running wiring under it, and all 10 of the screw that held the seat pan as well as the screws that fastened the seat bases, were all machine screws in 1/4-20 thread. The only sheet metal screws I had to remove were 2 on the backs of each of the seats. Can you post a picture?

Older boats were sheet metal style SS screws. You can fill the holes with a fiberglass resin or epoxy to give it bite.

I have found that superglue will work well also. If it is severely loose I will spread it around the hole with a tooth pick and then dust in some baking soda. Makes for some hard threads.

When they come loose , try putting just a SMALL dab of silicone on them when you put them back in . — Absorbs the vibration that works them loose . —

Marine tex worked great for me on my 09C.O.D. Jr. III

I used Marine Tex myself. Took it all apart and then refilled all of the holes completely. Gave the filler 24 hours to completely cure and put it back together. Screws have been solid tight ever since…..
