FAQ last updated 1 year ago!  Way too many topics of minor importance. Assuming all critical issues are in there somewhere, but without prior knowledge of a critical issue, how would one know what to search for? I’m talking critical stuff. For example, a specific topic BCB posted on swing tongues starts with “warning”.  So what would really be helpful is a very short list of things that are critically important to know about.

I agree that the FAQ section is helpful, but it does seem like it is kind of outdated at times.  I know when I was researching several different things that they were not listed in the FAQ section, but in multiple post in the regular forum.  Perhaps put a sticky on some of them.  One of the hot things seems to be the torsion bolts for the trailers.  It would be helpful if you could find things related to these common things easier.  Not being critical by any means, just would make a great board even better.

Any thoughts about creating a new forum category for “service bulletins” which would be reserved only for IMPORTANT recurring mechanical issues?

This could be very helpful  to folks that buy a used boat without any idea what problems they might encounter for a particular model year.  Yes there is info out there but it is not easy to sort through old posts the vast majority which are irrelevant and the search may not find anything if the exact words are not found.  Two prime examples are the leaky gas tank valve for newer model years and torsion axle idler arm bolts that like to get loose which can cause expensive axle damage.  So many other potential topics like vault hubs, brake issues, etc, etc.

Just a suggestion.

Because they rarely have recurring mechanical issues.  Ninety nine percent of the time it’s an owner issue most likely…overfill of the fuel tank, filling too fast, wrong angle.  Or hitting curbs, potholes; forgetting to unhook emergency cable from truck when storing trailer or pinching brake lines.  Still, the one percent of the time that it is not the owner’s or family’s fault…  crickets…

VictoryGunner:  A service bulletin to me does not imply that BCB is at fault. But maybe that perception is a reason why BCB might be hesitant to put such a list at the fore front on this forum?  Well then, title the thread as “maintenance bulletins” if that sounds better. Potential issues to be aware of without any finger pointing. How many times have you seen someone complaining about water in rod boxes? Gas valve leaks are not due to overfilling! That was an indirect result of EPA changing the requirement to not allow vented gas tanks on boats.

BillBo, I agree, FAQ could use a lot more organization and sections such as “trailer maintenance bulletins”, “boat maintenance”, “general topics”(old tournaments etc., and “history lessons”. It is outdated, jumbled and imho, pointless in a FAQ unless it’s in a specific section if someone wants to scroll through.  But that’s going to take too much time with the volume of information they have put out.

Didn’t say overfill was the reason for the gas valve leaks.  As you mention though, looking through old threads, there’s a lot of discussion about overfill years ago. As fishermen would sometimes fill too fast or try to top off for those long runs.  A lot of discussion going back to the 90s and earlier.

Sometimes it’s actually easier to just google what info you are looking for.  More often then not Google will take you to the posts within BCB websites (past and present) that will help you out.
