I read a lot of the pros are spooling thier reels with 10lb braid and then tie off a flourocarbon leader off with a blood knot. Do any of you do this and if so how long of a leader do you use?ThanksJeff
I have tried this myself, but found myself going back to P-Line flouroclear. I didnt see advantage doing this over just filling with my flouroclear. Plus I was having a hard time tying the blood knot, I am trying to prolong the use of glasses!
I have 1 rod spooled all with florocarbon 10#. And 1 with braid and a 10 foot leader of floro. I tied it off with a blood knot but I dont use this rig often. Im afraid of the knot…. With this rig you have 2 conections I have a hard enough time with one knot. But I can say the few times I have fished with the braid and floro I have had no problems. The advantage with this rig to me is its more sensetive and you can sweep your rod and get better hook set…Earle
Ive been using 10# Fireline attached with a double Uni knot to a leader of 8 – 10# Seguar In Viz X. I start with about a 10 leader to allow to retie several times. Ive also used the Fireline alone and cant say one outfished the other but either way the Fireline provides more sensitivity.
Throw a shakey head all the time. Never saw the sense in all those expensive lines. I just use Trilene XL on my spinning rods and XT on my bait casting rods. (I buy in bulk spools to save a little money) I spool 2 spinning rods with 8# XL and 2 with 10#XL. Evan use 10 and 12 # XL on my crank bait rods. (Has a smaller diameter) Have not seen or caught a fish yet that would know the difference. Have caught 6 and 7 pound largemouth and smallmouth on 8# XL with no problems at all. Loosen the drag a little and learn to back real some on those hard pulling fish and you will not have any problems at all. The only time I have ever seen the need for braid is around heavy vegation and grass. (it cuts through the grass and lilly pads better than mono) Other than that I use mono for everything !Just my thought on all the lines out there. Sure some are better but for my money will just stick to what works and is cost effecient. Good Luck
I have been using Vicious Flourocarbon line exclusively now for one full season both in light weight lines for spinning tackle to the heavier lines for baitcasters and am very impressed so far.For shaky heads I use either 6 or 8 pound test with excellent results.
