Skeeter Encounter

My son and I launched right at daylight Saturday for a tournament. We were idling out in the no wake zone and there’s a Skeeter that was quite a ways behind us. He’s coming up pretty fast, definitely making a wake, and pulls up along side us. The Skeeter had a Yamaha 250 but it wasn’t the SHO. It’s obvious he wants to see what my Eyra has so as soon as we hit the no wake buoys we floor it. He stayed next to me only for the few seconds to get on plane and I went off and left him. I hit about 70-71 pretty fast and was surprised how far I had pulled away from him. The Fury 4 25 has some excellent low to mid range acceleration but I know it suffers on top end. I’m sure the SHO would have been closer, especially on the hole shot. I just thought it was funny the guy was so obvious on catching up with us then pulls up along side is in the no wake zone, not sure what he was thinking.

He was most likely thinking he was going to see how they ran up against each other, most likely. If that was a 250 VMax then those were strong engines and probably faster than the SHO models on most rigs. Four strokes are not as fast as the older two strokes in our opinion. Though they bring a totally different dimension in user experience and customer satisfaction. Not checking oil tanks and just pulling up and fueling the tank is a very nice convenience. There’s always a faster gun, and there are no old gun fighters. BCB

True, my son and I just enjoyed the fun. Of course there’s always a few boats that’ll blow my Eyra away. I have a friend in Tennessee with an Allison so he’ll be laughing at me this summer when we go visit. I occasionally see a guy on Conroe with a 300 on a Bulllet. Best thing I saw this weekend was a pontoon boat with a 400R on it. I’m still not happy I lost a couple on a frog but we had a lot of fun.Funny thing was we were idling to an area in little creek we wanted to fish. Here comes a boat hauling butt still on plane, it’s another Bass Cat. I’ve never seen anyone run on plane in this area. He slows down and goes by us pretty fast and straight to where we were headed. It worked out great for us in the end, I just lost a couple I should have had. Little Creek had about four Bass Cats back there Sunday morning.
