I finally took my new to me Cougar out for the first time this weekend and man do I need to learn how to drive it. I have never had a boat with a high performance hull that chine walked and I need to get some seat time. 68 was the best I could do. I hope it doesnt take too long to get the numbers Doug M was getting from it. I was cleaning out the bilge and noticed the Hydro jack plate fluid level was a little low. What type of fluid do they recommend for these units. I looked on the R&R website and could not find anything. There is also a seal leaking on the passenger side of the Sea Star unit and I have to add fluid. Has anyone had any experience with the new seal kit for the steering system or had a dealer do it for you? How expensive was it?Thanks

Seal for one side of seastar is $40 kit plus 1 hour of labor. Be sure they bleed system after they do it.As for R&R plate call them on Monday. I imagine its like detweiler where you can use a variety of fluids likely trim fluid from whatever brand of motor R&R uses to drive the plate.C.O.D. Jr. III

I talked to R&R today and they said it was just straight 30 weight motor oil. I would have thought it was something more specialized than that. For once something is easy.
