Been trying to snake my new livewell control cable through but keep getting caught up on something. Anything to make this easier? Dealership already took the old one out and quoted me $400 to put a new one in. 2013 sabre
Would have been easier to tape the new one to the old one and pull it through as you took the old one out. That said, take off your vent on starboard rear so you have a straight shot down starboard gunnel. Get a fish tape for electrical wire pulling and run the fish tape down the gunnel to the throttle opening. Tape the cable to fish tape and pull it through. Don’t try to push it. Helps to have two people so if it binds somewhere working it back and forth a little will usually free the bind. Pretty easy to run the other end from vent to valve. Harbor freight has the fish tape pretty cheap prolly.
Never thought about taking the vent off. Forgot to mention that dealership took the old cable out, and then told me how much it would be, or else I would have just used the old one. Thanks for the idea!
Yes, pull the cowl vent and get a straighter access. Also keep the cables high as they must shoot over the foam chamber that is the height of the rear deck. It’s a narrow channel through the funnel.
I was going to mention also to push cable into top underside of gunnel will make it easier. I fed from the console position after trying to tape new cable to old. I had an 07 Classic and in some of the boats BCB cable tied the wires/cables together so pulling new with the old doesn’t always work. At least that was what I was told by the great guy in Parts at the time which was many years ago. Worse thing was, the cable turned out to be fine. Only problem was plastic in knob at console broke. All I really had to do was change the plastic knob. I knew the second time it broke! Saved me a BUNCH of time and aggravation…..
