TommacII wrote:Any northeast members been up fishing southern Lake champlain lately . Im headed up this Saturday for a few days with a buddy and his son . My buddy has never been to the lake would like to have him and his son have a good time . I was up to the northern part this spring and the weedbeds were non-existent .and information would be appreciated ,thanks Tom macaluso Hi Tom – Just back yesterday from camp which is at Buoy 39 across the lake from the Fort. I wish I could offer some help but I just had my worst two days of fishing on the lake that I can remember. One dink in two not full days of fishing. I couldnt get a thing going though others did better. Water temps have dropped to 63 early am to 67 or so in afternoon though its supposed to be a beautiful warm week so they may come up a bit. Water is higher than normal for this time of the year but in theory that should be a good thing. Water is pretty dirty and clear water is tough to find below the Crown Point bridge. We had a lot of rain the last week which hasnt helped. Clarity can be anywhere from 3 to just inches depending on where you are. Weeds are thick and healthy. Sometimes down wind of thick weeds clearer water can be found. Jigs, plastics, worms in the weeds should work. Cranking is tough because there is so much floating grass. Same issue with top water. Frog bite should be working but I couldnt get anything going. Drop shoting might work but I didnt try it (foolishly not my thing). Did run into a few toothy critters. Plan on loosing some baits if they turn on. Saw some bass feeding on tiny minnows as were crappies. Perch are around so pan fish type baits might work. Id offer more specifics but I just dont have any. Last several times out the past four weeks Ive really struggled and not sure whats going on. (The Elites struggled down by us too). Friends I know that did better than I seemed to be fishing above Ferry at Ti Launch.Good news leaves are starting to turn so its getting scenic. Might want to consider taking a day when its calm (occasionally we have them) and launch north at Chimney Point (VT) or Port Henry (NY) and run north and look for large or small mouth. Perch color jerk baits for smallies or green jigs for LM. trailer with a little red flake can be good. Our club has an Open tournament out of Chimney Point Sunday. Not sure if Ill be up or not. If head up during the week I can let you know.

Not fishing today but maybe tomorrow. Weather is nice except for foggy mornings.
I think you guys went by me around 11:00 at Buoy 39 Marina. I caught up to you around the paper.mill (you were traveling pretty slow if it was you two) and stopped at watch point as it looked like you were heading further north. Maybe I should have gone too. All I could find is pike.

I did manage to get into a frog bite late Monday. 14 hits, one 2 pounder in the boat. Had a 5 lb hit just 6 from boat. Got a good look at him twice. But though theyd hit, they werent eating it. Was frustrating! Friend and I are taking his Puma up to Converse one day this weekend for smallies. They are ton of fun.
