Oldtimer I didnt think indexing was necessary and thats wat I told my friend. Ive changed many plugs through the yrs. I own and use my torque wrenchs. With that in mInd I know wat the difference is between 20 and 50 ft lbs of torque. The torque wrench just eases my mind. according to my service manual IZFR6J-11 (pre gapped) or IZFR6J (YOU HAVE TO GAP THIS PLUG) can be used. Thank you Oldtimer and BCB FOR THE CLARIFICATION . I have bought both types of plugs. the -11 pre-gapped from mercury, and the non-11 not pre-gapped plugs. ALL of them needed tweaking. They might be pre-gapped. But they seem to be pre-gapped to purely random gaps between .025 and .080 or so. I check the gap on every plug I buy, whether from Mercury, Toyota or Wal-Mart. Too many people in the path from factory to me. They are dropped, banged, thrown around during shipping, etc.Apparently some of the rudes needed indexing. The Fichts were one I think. But I dont run Rudes so I am hardly an expert. Worked on a few, but just a few, zero fichts2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
