Sportsmanship opinion wanted- Good or Bad

Had an episode yesterday at a tournament. Would like opinions whether good or bad. Had our morning blast off and I made it to my main starting spot in pine bluff harbor. Went into boat canals that are about 60 feet wide at most and 1/4 mile long. Made it in, grabbed rod made first flip, turned to make 2nd flip and another boat pulls into canal beside me and sets upto fish. I asked which tourney they were in, and I acknowledged to them I was in same tourney. They started fishing right beside me, rubbing boat to boat. They fished both sides of canal, some of there pitches in front of my flips across my boat. I stated that they fish their side and I fish mine. At this point I am boiling mad at these guys. All I can do to not climb in boat with them. So I speed up on trolling motor and they do the same. I slow down and they do the same. We do this almost all the way down the canal and I am boiling mad and not fishing the way I need to. I decide that they have no reguards of having any morals of sportsmanship. Here is where I got childish and stubborn. We get almost to the end where the fish have been, I throw trolling motor on high and get within 50-60 yards of the end, turn the boat sideways and powerpole down and stowing my trolling motor and explaining anchoring rules. They get mad telling me how sorry I am about not owning the water and not much of a human being in a lot of other words. I told them that If I had pulled into the canal 2nd like they did and it was my primary spot, I would have turned and left because it is the way I am. I know that I could have left to begin with, but it didnt enter my mind at the time. All comments are welcome, good or bad. You are not going to hurt my feelings if you blast me for what I did, like I said in the little story was that I was furious and it was the best thing I could come up with other than not climbing in the boat with them.

Sounds to me like you were in the right. If I was second I would have fished behind you or went some where else.

I would have told them to “Suck It” and then may have very well told them to meet me over at the bank to settle it. First guy there wins in my book and if I am second then I give way. I wont crowd anybody unless they pull in on top of me then its game on.

You were completely right in my opinion. I just got home from fishing McDonalds big bass splash on Sam Rayburn and there was word that 2 boats collided with one of them being T-Boned and they life flighted one contestant to the hospital. Sometimes the green fish isnt worth it….Good Job on your case,GeorgeGeorge

They should have stayed on their side if you gave them that option. As far as the McDonalds goes I talked to the guy that was involved in the wreck. Everyone is ok just banged up. Neither boat said they seen each other. I also fished it and dealing with people who only fish one time a year is hard to do. I was so mad and tired of dealing with idiots I didnt even go out today.

I would have fired up the big motor and washed the canal out. He would have needed his auto bilge for sure. If you see a boat in a confined area like that you dont go in. Turn around and find another spot. You were there first. This is why I have about quit tournament fishing. I like what Bama said but the last time I had to deal with crazy I was in my truck and another driver lost it. I “handled it” and the lawyer cost $1000. Tough call. Hate to constantly let the ignorant win and I understand the need in this world to stand for morals and honesty. Fine line between morals and our own pride though. Sounds like you did fine. If not Im sure you already know inside but certainly no judgement from me. Just keep fishing brother!
