Hello, with throttle pushed forward, my steering wheel only has about 3/4" clearance from your fingers when I turn wheel to the right. Fingers end up hitting wheel. Is that typical for that model?

probably typical. Assuming you don’t have tilt steering. If it really bothers you can opt for tilt steering or maybe use a spacer. A spacer will bring the steering wheel closer to you. A tilt steering helm won’t be cheap.
