Tahoe Sliding……

Mentioned something about this a while back......Tahoe sliding down the ramp when launching my boat. 08 Tahoe, heavy duty trailer package, blah blah.......towing a 2007 PIV. The trailer brakes had gone out a few weeks ago and I thought that might have been related. The good fellas at Bowden got that fixed but Tahoe still slides. If GM had the same customer care as BassCat and Bowden Marine I might be out of questions but all weekend this past weekend at a 2 day tournament, same slide happening on the Tahoe. Once it hits the incline of the ramp the front brakes lock up and it starts to slide. I disabled the traction control and that did nothing. Took it to GM and got the usual "we cannot duplicate the problem and cannot find anything wrong". What I know is the same Tahoe has backed in the same boat for almost a year and the sliding problem started a few weeks ago. Different ramps, same problem.....does not matter steep or not. Any other thoughts from anyone or know of any Tahoe owners with the same problem? Thanks.............DK

The trailer brakes wouldnt have anything to do with the sliding, they dont work backing downhill ! I would say slow down, and if possible pick a dry part of the ramp, otherwise it is what it is. Ive not heard anyone else with this problem though,,,,,, and could be related to antilock brake control, they shouldnt lock up forward or reverse i dont believe. Good luck, D.

DK…she will stop when the boat hits the water On a serious note, I have seen that happen but more on certain ramps. Tell the Chebby house you will be by with the boat and take the tech to a ramp with you and show him what it does. If he says it is the ramp then take him to another one. Things would be a lot different if Chebby was like BCB and probably wouldnt be trading for less than $3 a share and asking for bailout $…but dont get me started Judd Lasiter

I would have the anti-lock brakes checked. They quit working some times on slick surfaces, like gravel and maybe ramps. There was a fix for older Chevy Tahoes and Suburbans. Skipjack

Ive had this happen on several 2wd Chevy Crew cabs. I just pop the truck into neutral as soon as I hit the incline and no more sliding. Jeff

I know this may be stupid, but since it has been working ok for a year and now just started, how is the tread on the tires? If you are running the 08 stock tires on your Tahoe that may be most of your problem. I know I had issues with my tires on my 06 tahoe. Although mine is 4×4, I had to use 4×4 with the stock tires all the time when on the ramp not to slip or slide. Since I upgraded the tires with some decent ones, I almost never have to use the 4×4 only engages on very slick or steep ramps.Jason Desertdweller.com Get Your Bass in the Boat!

JScrimager has given you some insight. We use two solutions, either let the truck roll in Drive with pressure on the transmission, (GM does not suggest) or use the neutral position as suggested. BCB

Here is my 2 cents. First i think that when you are going down the ramp you are unloading weight off the front wheels when they slide the abs system unloads pressure from the system giving you problems. But I do have a good solution when I have similar problems I apply the emergency brake enough to help in braking which also means you arent stomping the brakes as hard and presto a controlled drive in reverse down the ramp. Dont engage the emergency fully just enough to make this work and it will. Going up take the brake off. irv

One would think GM would of had better ABS in their trucks by now. Trucks always lagged behind the cars in technology. My 93 Buick Park Ave had a better ABS than 10 year newer GM trucks. This usually happens to me at wet ramps when I am putting my heavy pleasure boat in the water. A front wheel will lock up and the whole thing starts to slide and you have no steering since the front wheel is locked up. I found if I quickly let up on the brake and lightly pump (like the ABS modulator is supposed to do only at a fast rate with feedback from individual wheels), push hard and then let up and pump again as I continue to apply more pressure I can regain control. I always make sure that I am lined up good so I dont have to steer as I am going down.

Good info and insight guys. Thanks. I know the trailer brakes dont work when backing up and since it is a recent issue occuring at many different ramps I was drawing a blank. Anyway, I wanted a new set of tires for Christmas and the other ideas are good too. Thanks
