I know that there are a lot of variables, but I would like to know what is the best prop that you have found to run on your Eyra. I have a 250 Proxs and want another prop. Currently have a Fury 3 in 26 pitch. Some of you have tried many different props be it a Fury, Trophy, Tempest, Bravo, 3 vs 4 blade.
But in your experience what has run best, in hole shot and handling whether top end is best or not. Thanks for the input!
Obviously you must have a 2 stroke engine .
Don’t have an Eyra – but I don’t think there’s ever a universally correct answer on any hull / motor combo as to what’s the “Best” prop to run. There’s just too many variables. Light loaded, heavy loaded, weight distribution, lower unit, troller, big water, narrow water, top end or handling emphasis. There is never a best prop. It’s what’s the best for you and how you use the boat. Holeshot and handling will probably go to the Bravo XS. It’ll be more forgiving on load and weight distribution as well.
2 stroke? 4 stroke? prop to hull measurement. Average load?
Yes, I have a 2 stroke. I love this boat. Since I don’t have a way to experiment with different props I need to make a wise decision in buying another prop. I have a hydraulic plate also. Run a light load and mostly by myself making balance an issue.
25p Fury 3 ronnie gilbert tuned w/ 4 stroke pro xs – hole shot good top end about 81
27p Fury 3 ronnie gilbert tuned w/ 4 stoke pro xs – extra exhaust – hole shot fair top end about 82
24p Fury 3 stock w/ 4 stroke pro xs hole shot good top end 80.5
Hello Phil, I am going to make the assumption that all 3 props give about the same rpm! I mean when Ronnie worked the 25 and 27 are they both hitting the same rpm? Also, have you ever tried the 4 blades?
No. They do not. The rpms are about what you would expect. From 58-5900 w 27 up to 6100+ w stock 24. No I did not run fury 4 on this boat as there is too big of a loss in top end speed. All things equal you’ll lose about 2-3 mph using a fury 4.
I have a 2017 Eyra, Mercury 2 stroke. My favorite prop is the Bravo 1 XS, I run 26p in the summer and a 27p when it gets in the 70’s and below. I ran the Fury 3 25 and 26, Fury 4 25 and 26, now the Bravo 1 XS 26 and 27. Great mid range, helped my hole shot, great rough water prop, just not the fastest, it’s a mid 70’s prop.. I fish Lake Conroe the most and top speed just isn’t possible the majority of the time, it’s a very rough lake, and for me this prop works the best overall. Bravo XS give the Eyra a lot of lift and like I said the mid range acceleration is awesome. Where are you located?
As for hole shot I just replaced my 3 trolling motor batteries with 3 50ah lithiums. That took care of my hole shot, boat jumps up on plane much faster now. Looking forward to some cooler weather and seeing the difference because the two times I have been out with the lithiums it has been in the 90’s.
I live in north central Florida and fish the St. John’s river as often as I can. I love it there. I mostly fish by myself mainly due to work schedules, but find learning to drive has been somewhat of an issue for me. I think a lot of that is due to balance since I am rather large. When I am with a friend it is less a problem. Wringing out the last couple mph has become slightly less important as hole shot, midrange and handling has become more important. One of the reasons I have been thinking 4 blade. Very difficult to choose which prop and then find the correct pitch. These things are not cheap!
I can’t tell a big difference between the 26p and 27p Bravo 1 XS but I can tell you I like the Bravo over the Fury 4. In the Bravo I’d suggest either the 26p or 27p, 26p if hole shot is more important and you’re going to use it it year round. But, again I don’t think you’ll notice a big change between the two pitches. You’re not going to get top speed on either the Fury 4 or the Bravo but you’ll love the acceleration, mid range, and handling on the Bravo, in my opinion a much better prop the the Fury 4.
A while back I put my Fury 3 26p on and didn’t realize how much better the initial and mid range the Bravo had compared the the Fury 3.
I do not own a Eyra, I have a 2017 Cougar AE. That being said, I sent the 25p Fury 3 that I had on this boat to Ronnie Gilbert. Prior to my sending him my prop I spent about 1/2 an hour on the phone with him telling him what the boat did and what I wanted out of it. So far I have been extremely happy with the work he did on my prop and what sold me was when he told me if I didn’t like what the prop did when I got it back send it back and he would work on it until it did everything I wanted it to do. The man knows what he is doing, and it is cheaper than buying another new one.
