I would put it port. Not sure how the Talon functions, but with a PP you can look left and make sure its up or down. Also weight on the left side will delay chinning a few mph.

Yes, hook it to the cranking battery, If you have an opti, if your crank battery is a quality one and at least around 1150 mcas, you should be fine. To prevent parasitic drain and accidental deployment during travel, you should install a battery cut-off switch as well. I put my Talon on the starboard side simply because I did not want to remove the port side “e” ladder.

I am the same as Catdude28 Starboard side of my puma so I could keep the e-ladder. There is an alarm wire that you can connect so when you turn the key it beeps so you know it is deployed. I love mine best addition so far to the boat!Mike

Mine is starboard, but putting second one on!! Definately put cut off switch or quick d/c on!! Mine deployed going down the road! And get tilt bracket and locks

As suggested above, if you still want the use of your ladder mount it to the Starboard side. If that doesnt bother you then choose the best side to balance your load. Installing to the cranking battery is the way to go. No need for an additional battery. Recommend either the quick disconnect plug or a master breaker switch to cut power when off the water. The Talon will have a very small drain on the battery when not in use. Cutting power will eliminate that and any battery draw if the boat sits for a while.One Talon is great but once you install the second one you will wonder how you managed without two. Enjoy!!JC

Thanks to all for their input.I went with the 360 mount and the tilt bracket. Did the install last night and that bracket is a beast. With the adjustments you can make, it looks like it would adapt to most any boat. I had the 4″ Slidemaster manual jack plate and was able to put 3 bolts to attach the bracket instead of only 2. Going to have to get a couple of shorter bolts so my cover will slide behind the bracket. I went with the 12 foot red one and wow is beautiful reminds me of the Candy Apple red in the old days. As soon as I put it in the bracket I realized it really needs a twin on the other side. Will have to wait for more funds before doing that. I have not used it yet but am really pleased with the decision I made to get the Talon. 5 year warranty and after watching http://WWW.Talontorturechamber.com you get a sense of what has been engineered into the product. I have the disconnect on the way and will install when arrives. Wasnt even thinking the quick disconnect would do the same thing.John

John,Glad to hear you got everything installed and are happy with it so far. The bolts you are talking about should be the ones that bolt the Tilt bracket to the Universal Adapter Bracket correct?? If you flip them around so the threads are not pointing towards the boat it should work fine. If not you may have to cut them at the nut.The photo is old and does not have the Tilt Bracket but it just to show the bolt flipped

I mounted mine on the port side for better balance because I often fish alone. You can tap any purple wire under the dash for your alarm.

As Catdude said purple wire, I found and unused one under my dash in the main wire bundle. I mounted mine on the drivers side because I have an E-ladder.

how often do you guys actually use your talons/power poles? I had a talon on my old boat, and after a year of barely using it, took it off.

Minnkota actually recommends mounting on left side of boat. But I installed mine on driver side without issue. The only thing that I say is mandatory is a battery cut off switch , due to the fact they can and have deployed going down the road. Cut off switch is cheaper than the quick disconnects. Also get the ani theft lock nuts for the bolts.
