Topic: Tempest on a FTD???

Has anyone ran a tempest prop on a FTD or Jag? I have the FTD/225opti and am running a 25 trophy that hits the limiter if I have flat water but is perfect for the Great lakes/rough water driving. For inland lakes, I know I could run a 26 trophy and lose a little holeshot and mid-range but I was thinking about a 26 Tempest to stay right at the limiter for top end and still be able to spin it for a decent hole shot. The only issue is I dont want to be changing J/P settings when switching. I need a spare prop but I am not sure which one to get. BTW - theres no dealers near by that allow "try before you buy" unless you bought the boat from them.

I am running a 26 temptest on 225 optimax/cougar ftd. I know I still need to do some fine tuning but I am running 72 mph(gps) fully loaded/1 person(drops to 69 with 2 people) turning 5600 rpms. Great holeshot and top end.

I have a 2004 Cougar FTD with a 225 Opti. The boat came with a 26 Tempest Plus, with two guys both fuel tanks full and a full livewell the hole shot is really terrible!I have a hydraulic jackplate and have tried the hole shot at all available positions and it does nopt improve. Please let me know your set-up to get the good hole shot.ThanksBob

I dropped down from the 26″ Trophy PVS to the 25″ Trophy PVS on my FT/225Optimax rig. The performance was good, but I did not want to “dog” the motor in higher water and air temperatures we have in Missouri. My personal recommendation is to always prop for maximum rpms…With the 25″ Trophy PVS, The holeshot is excellent, and top end is 72mph at 5725 rpms ( just under rev limiter) fully loaded with gear, two adults, fuel and livewells. My engine height is 24.5 inches on the manual R&R jackplate. I am not running the blow-out ring and have all 4 large-hole plugs in mine.I tried a 26″ Tempest and “smoked” it at these comparable settings, so my best overall performance is with the 25″ Trophy.Let me know if I can assist you in anyway. Gary,Where are you measuring to get the engine height? I have a 2004 FTD with 225 EFI.Currently run 25 trophy plus. I am not getting the RPMs, about 5600. Running about 68-69 mph. I wonder if engine height would improve this.

Norm,Email me your phone number and I will call you back. I am measuring from the bottom of the pad to the bottom of the “hook” on the motor bracket. However, there are some other reference points we can use to make the measurement “simplier”.It sounds like you are pretty close….Gary Hollander
