That’s impressive! Still have the 150 4 stroke on your Sabre? How did it ride in the chop compared to others? Been wanting to try a 25 Fury on mine too.

Thanks, yes still the standard 150 4-stroke. Since I had the stiffer pro XS mounts out in I haven’t had any issues controlling the chine walk and have put 24 Trophy, 25 Tempest and 24 Fury on the limiter. With the Fury not having as much lift as the others, it’s my least favorite in rough water and only like running it as winter prop. Trophy is a mph slower though still my favorite all around, with Tempest next. I’m still waiting to go out in a Sabre with 175hp 4-stroke as not wanting to spend the coin if it’s not worth the upgrade, though my warranty is now expired.
That’s a strong 150 4 stroke to get those rpms. It’s impress how fast these Sabres run.
I agree with you on the Fury. It’s the fastest I’ve ran on my 2 stroke 175 (24 Fury), but my least favorite in rougher water. I will say that the rough water ride was a lot better if I dropped the Fury to 3 3/4 below pad. The 25 Tempest has been my favorite prop. Same deal though, and I have to keep it ~ 3 3/4 below pad for the rough water. I can turn it 5900-5920 rpms on my Smartcraft running solo with about 3/4 fuel. It carries 2 adults well. Full gas, full livewells, and 2 adults over 200 lbs, it’s about 66.7-66.8.
If you find someone with the new 175, give us some performance numbers. I haven’t seen anyone down here with the new 175 yet. If I do, I’ll ask for a ride.

Keep in mind I have 1.92 gearing vs the 1.87 of your 2-stroke which is similar to the 1.85 of the new 175 4-stroke, I can run a pitch steeper. I tried going down to 3.75” with the 24 Fury to see if that helped get it off the limiter, but no real change. Have gone up to 3”, but the factory setting of 3.5” (flush)seems to best all around. I know of one, but he’s still playing with props. I think the larger lower unit increases drag somewhat as well as the new 4-stroke 175 is much heavier than your 2-stroke 175 that was already pushing the 10% rule, so honestly don’t expect it to be even as fast. Though the weight and bigger LU make it more stable at speed I believe, as you can supposedly take both hands off the wheel at 65.
Agreed. Your motor really sings on your Sabre. Mine scoots pretty well too. If you know the Sabre 175 4 stroke owner, tell him you have a 24 Trophy to try. That should give a good idea, and it’ll probably run nicely on that new 4 stroke.

I thought that would be the ticket as well and what it shipped with, though he stepped down in pitch as his speed is similar though he has taller gearing and a higher limiter. Was wanting to initially run them side by side both with 24 Fury’s for comparison, as I expect him to get to terminal velocity quicker.
His boat had a 24 Trophy shipped with it? Any idea what rpms it turned? Does he have a heavier Spotlock TM on it? Any idea on the driver’s experience level? I’ve got a couple buddies I fish with, and neither can drive mine past 67. Driver weight figures in too.
I know my boat is definitely weight sensitive. I only keep about 10 lbs of tackle upfront (what I think I need for the day) and 6-7 rods total usually. Mine has a Fortrexx 80 with 3 group 27 lead acids in the rear. I weigh about 210.
If it helps the search, a 24 Tempest turned the most rpms of any prop I’ve tried. It hit a wall at 68.5 turning 6020 after my motor loosened up. Didn’t matter what height I ran the motor or how much fuel. I also tried a 25 Bravo 1xs. It hit 6000 rpms, but I could only reach 65.1. I ran a 26 Bravo for a while. Great prop overall. Raised to about 3.4, it turned 5850 to 68.5 with almost full fuel. Under 1/4 fuel, it was right at 69 if I could find calm water. It would lose water pressure if I ran it any higher on the plate. Pretty much the same with all the other props. 24 Fury has easily been the fastest prop I’ve tried. At 3.4 below, I hit 70 turning about 5880 rpms in blazing Summer heat with 1/2 fuel. No clue if any of this relates to the new 4 stroke, but maybe it will help.

Sorry, no I meant 24 Fury is what his came with and I had the same prop. I offered to let him try the 24 Trophy or 25 Tempest, though just got word he settled on a 23 Trophy after trying many different ones. Turned 5900 and 67mph loaded, says it’s a rocket out of the hole. Weather not getting above freezing this weekend, so will try to get together the following.
That sounds pretty good to me. 67 something is what I get with near a full tank and another person about my size. That is plenty fast. Man, I’d like to be cadillacing in a new Sabre with that 4 stroke. Tough to part with my boat as it’s paid for and still like new. Thanks for the info.
I have a 2020 sabre with the new 150 4 stroke, what Mph does you boat start to walk? I ahve 24 fury on mine and ive 64.1 so far but i am walking at 62 With empty live wells.

That’s about the speed where I start working the wheel to try and balance the boat. You have to be very careful with the trim on the 150hp 4-stroke as it’s very quick being a single cylinder system that doesn’t have a slower trim speed than tilt speed like traditional 3-ram systems of the larger 4-strokes and older 2-strokes. I believe Mercury did that to save weight as it was one of their big deals in advertisement claim of being the lightest 150hp 4-stroke. It’s a good thing in that you can quickly trim down to suck the hull down in the water more to regain control as don’t want to just chop the throttle, though it’s quickness can get you into trouble in raising it too fast. I’m just flicking the switch up/down when really trying to air it out. You have a new ProXS as they come with the stiffer mounts designed for high performance Bass boats and have steeper 2.08:1 gearing in the lower unit, so a 24 Fury is probably 6100rpm at 64mph. A ProXS should run 1” taller pitch than my standard 150 4-stroke given the gearing even with your higher limiter. What rpms are you turning?
I am not 100% sure what the RPMs were, but I believe it was around 5900-6k. Next time i am out i will double check.

Analog tach can be off a little though mine seems to be good based on vessel view, digital is better of course. Your rev limit should be ~200rpm more than mine, 6000 is what’s stated though it seems you go a little higher on the 4-strokes. I’ve heard some claim as high as 200, mines less than 100.
I am going out to a larger lake saturday where room to run and truly test it out. I will see what the RPMs at when im maxing out. When i hit 64 it still feels like she had more to give, just ran out of lake.

The Fury runs steep and even if you consider it to be an almost 1” taller prop your slip numbers are maxed out along with the RPM’s, though looking forward to hearing back. Simon Motorsports supposedly bumped limiter to 6400 before the EPA shut them down for aftermarket tuning, so I believe the engines are still making power over 6k.
