Tested 27 temp. on Puma /250XS

Ran a buddys 27 tempest plus on my 250xs Puma sat. Was looking for a better hole shot than the trophy plus ( i have a 26 and 27). The hole shot was slightly better on the tempest 27 than the 26 trophy and way better than the 27 trophy. Top end was good also , 79 mph with full tanks and a tourney load. Only had about 20 min. to play with it but I liked the prop pretty well. It handled alot different at WOT than the trophys . For instance I noticed it didnt corner as well or handle rough water as well. Maybe I just needed more time with it but I think the trophy handled better but I have to go down to a 26 to get on plane in 5-6 seconds with a load and top out at about 77 mph. Ill bet with a light load in cool weather that tempest would get me 82 or better. Hope this helps.

Ive tried the 27 Tempest on two different Puma/250 XS set ups. On neither boat would it run 80 gps. The top speed was always around 79.5 – 79.7. Had a 28 Trophy that would also do about the same. I had it reworked and I got 83.4 unloaded in one boat and a year later got 81.4 loaded in the second boat. Yes they are quite a bit different in the handling and I would always lean toward the Trophy if I wanted better turning ability or rough water ride. Usually holeshot is relative to the number of plugs pulled on the side of the hub. Always pull plugs until you decide the prop is too large. Let us know what you end up with! Good luck!

The tempest will give the most speed but with the rings out, the exhaust cuts the bow lift and it blows out so much it almost puts you back in the water. I took mine and had it cupped. That made all the difference, it corners without the bow dropping, same top end, and good ruff water ride. 82.7 with a 25 pitch. (1.62 gears, 250XS on a Cougar)
