This has been discussed here many times and the newer tilt helms (07 and later) have been redesign to remove some of that play. The play is usually in the tilt helm where it connects to the steering shaft.Slip the rubber boot back and see if you can recognize where the play is. The Allen heads should be able to be tightened some. The play is generally about 1/2″ or so. We have seen and inch, though over that is not common. BCB
