Tire Recommendation

I had the same size on my Pantera III and just swapped over to Carlisles 8 ply tires in 205/75/15s. they are a little narrower, and taller but work just fine. I am not recommending any tire over another, as I could just not pass on the price ($160) I got for those 4 tires. If they would have had more, I probably would have bought 2 more for my little boat.

I think BassCat is putting General brand tires on current trailer production? Maybe they can share what model of General tire they are using? Have they had any complaints with the General tire?BassCatSC

I just swapped to the same size/type as 1stinLA. Those are generally load range D with a 2150 load rating. Minimal change in height. Trailer tires are significantly less expensive since they dont have a mileage warranty since the trailer has no odometer. One pretty common brand I have not tried is “master track”. 10 years ago these were called “China Bombs” due to separation/blowout/etc problems due to poor quality control. I have heard at least three people I know talk about these as now being extremely high quality. Guy on my street has had em for 3 years on his Stratos, not a problem. BassCatSC — looks like the General Tire Altimax RT comes in the same size as my Coopers. oldtimer57/1stinLA — Ive heard good things about the Goodyear Endurance, but its not available in the same size it comes in 205/75R-15, which looks to be about 0.3″ taller than the current tire. I suppose that would change the gap between the tires at their closest point by 0.6″ should be room for that I think.

Boat vs trailer tires have been debated here on the forum countless times. Several of us checked out Maxxis and have been very happy. There are not inexpensive, they are 8 ply or better and designed to perform. Worth a look as long as you are asking.

Height is total height. Only one half of that total height is on each side of the axle.As far as that size goes, you are correct. The 215/70 is a car tire size. The 205/75 is a trailer tire size. Narrower sidewall doesnt play so well with an 8 ply tire, which is pretty normal for trailer tires. Maxxis makes good tires, btw. I know several that run em. Including me now. Id either get the tires BCB is currently using, or get another set of Coopers.

I decided to go to trailer tires because when I weighed my classic and got around 3100 pounds +/-, and looked at the tires which has a load rating of 1620 @44 psi, that seemed to be REAL close (single axle trailer). These trailer tires are rated at 2150 per tire @ 65psi which gives a really significant margin between actual load and max load. I cant tell the difference in fender clearance it is so small. Only thing that looks different is the missing raised white letters.I average 200-300 miles per week on the trailer. Ill report back next Summer after 10,000 to 15,000 miles of use.
