I had a 2012 Tacoma Dbl Cab with 4.0, 5 speed auto. It towed my 06 Puma fine and had plenty of power. However the two biggest issues were the rear suspension was lacking until I added Air Raid air bags and the brakes were way lacking. In fact I just traded it in for a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Dbl Cab 5.3L. The full size GMC gets the same fuel mileage and tows much better since it full size. No worries now with braking.

I tow my Puma with a F-150 Ecoboost 4X4. More than enough power, handles great, and stops great. 14 MPG pulling the Cat and 19 to 20 MPG empty.

I wouldnt do it. But thats just me. Id never feel comfortable towing something that big w/ anything other than a full size & V8 truck.Towing is one thing, stopping is another. I know trailers all have brakes now but still….Also, there are some hills out of the ramps around here I just wouldnt trust a regular V6 to drag that much boat back up.the Eco-boost is a totally different animal than a regular V6. 13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

The Ecoboost has 420 ft lbs of torque at 2500 RPMs and 365 horsepower. Just in case some of you were wondering. Ive towed with the 5.3 Chevy (04 model with 4 speed though) and an 07 Dodge Hemi. IMO they have no comparison to the Ecoboost. Not trying to start a Ford commercial. Lol

Which Taco? Ive pulled our Cougar a few times 4 hours each way with the 2010 4-Runner Limited (AWD) The only time Ive ever had a problem is on slick steep ramps the boat may drag the truck backwards a little. No problems coming up, no problems stopping the boat in traffic with common sense. Youll still only see THE SAME MPG EMPTY OR FULL AS A F/S truck!Ive had an 08 Avalanche and now a 14 Crew Cab Chevy to compare with.

I have a 2013 TacomaV6, automatic,4×4,double cab,with the tow package and off road…..it will pull the Puma up a tree if you wanted it to and I have not had any issues with stopping.I would not want to tow a Puma without 4WD and the tow package,I hope this helps.
