Topic: Towing with Ford Explorer

Does anyone tow their 20 BCB with a Ford Explorer? Been doing some research and the weight of an Explorer is 4,500-4,900 lbs, about the same as a standard cab F150. Would be interested know how the V6 does and how the overall towing capabilities are. Ive always towed with full size pickups with v8s but would like to find a vehicle that could serve as the family mobile and be used for towing.Jason Ferbrache - Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra

I towed my 19 boat for a while with a ford bronco. Obviously had lots of power, but towed poorly at hiway speeds because of short wheel base. Switched to a Yukon XL and solved the problem. I also had a friend that towed his 20″ ft. boat with an explorer until he jack knifed and totaled his trailer on the interstate. You are asking for problems when your tow vehicles weight and length approach that of your boat. IMHO.

Single or tandem axle? Makes a world of difference.I tow my P III (19 3″) with a Lexus RX 330. Tandem axle trailer has never given me an issue and I towed it 1400 miles each way to the OI in 2015.

Ive been pulling my sabre and now PIV with a 2013 F150 Super Crew with the standard 3.7L V6 (and 6 speed auto transmission). It had no trouble pulling either boat, except on long steep hills. The V6 really struggled to keep the momentum up on those long hills. Other than that, it did really well. I have sense traded it for something with a V8 though, as, there are a lot of long hills where we fish. lol13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

I pulled my old 91 PII with a 91 Explorer 4.0 V6 and then I pulled my 01 P3 for 2 years with a 01 Explorer Sport Trac 4.0 v6, and my brother was pulling his T boat with a 95 V8 explorer. They all did a great job. I bet a new one equipped with the 3.5 Ecoboost would pull very well, as I know it does a great job in my F150. I would say as long as you keep your trailer brakes in good working order, that you would not have any trouble.
