Trailer 5- to 7-pin connector access

I'd posted my original problem earlier, determined to possibly be a bad install of the connection to the puddle light on the trailer step (that connection is cut/mangled and I'm trying to reconnect that).  I was attempting to remove the bundle of 5- to 7-pin connectors within the swing-out portion of the trailer tongue and was just simply not able to pull that bundle out (admittedly, trying not to break anything)...is there a trick to this?  I assume the 5-pin portion facing the front and the 7-pin part of the connection facing the rear is by design, or is it just to make it almost impossible to remove?   I took a couple of pics, but apparently the focus wasn't on the connection within the trailer tongue.   I'll try again tomorrow to get better pics, but perhaps someone has some insight on how to proceed?  Simply cut the trailer wire currently zip-tied to the brake cable to allow for more movement?   Thanks in advance.
