Trailer Disc brakes

The first thing I would check is the brake line through the tongue. Make sure it does not have a slight kink, it only takes a small one to cause the brakes to not release fully.There could be other reasons, and someone should jump on here with things to look at, but I had the small kink and it did what you described. I was able to see it with a flashlight forward near the coupler, and a tug on the line freed it. The line was not folded over but was slightly compressed.

Jack up the axle with the brakes and make sure that the brakes are not dragging. Disc brakes can have a little drag but not much. If there is excesive drag, check for kinks as stated above and then pull the wheels and brake assembly off to make sure the pads arent stuck and are free to clench and unclench. Sometimes in the marine enviroment disc brakes and water dont mix real well and corrosion happens. That is why for boats I prefer drum brakes. I think that BCB changed to discs for public pressure/marketing reasons. People really wanted the disc brakes.Irv

Forgot to say that some heat and brake dust is normal, the hubs could be pretty warm especially just after a long stop. However I never felt a hub to be painfull to the touch. Of course smoke is a bad thing too!Irv
