The trailer step and pole are wise addition to your Cat. The last two Cats I have owned had it installed at the factory. I did have the step and pole put on my “06 CougarFTD trailer however. Sherm put it on for me. It wasnt that hard to do. If you add it after the trailer is made, the pole has a bracket at the base which bolts to the trailer tongue and then to the winch step, which goes over your existing winch. It works very well. The only part that a person would need to be very careful is drilling the holes through the tongue. You need to be certain you dont hit any of the wires inside for lights and or for brakes, etc. I highly recommend it. It sure makes it easier launching by yourself. Its saved my rear end from taking a swim at the ramp on a few occasions.

I just put it on and I am glad I did and glad it is done. You need to check out this post below and IM pumatrac for some really good pictures of his trailer. He was a big help to me. I will say it takes two people and it took me three $20 hard metal drill bits to get through the tongue. You must be very careful with the wiring and brake line inside and I do not think it would have worked if I did not have a swing away tongue that allowed us to see inside. One guy needs to drill while the other one holds everything out of the way and I used a crowbar for that. That being said it is really nice to have and very safe. Getting off the front of my puma was the only thing I did not like about my boat but it sure is nice now. I slipped off the front of my old skeeter once and tore up my ribs on the trailer tongue. I installed mine in minutes. Excellent mod to the trailer. Makes things a whole lot easier and safer getting in and out of the boat as well as during launch and recover.
