Absoutely silicone hte mounting screws. And you should use a 24 hour epoxy in the bilge to reattach the Vexilar transducer. We are curious if the Vexilar was BCB mounted or after market. The resin and glass putty we use seldom releases.

the vexilar i believe was attached from basscat the material seems to be a black type of epoxy can I mount it inthe existing residue pocket or do I need to chip it out my pinpoint transducer is still tirght ther and attached in the same area. Is ther a good way to realease that ducer or should I just whack it witj a big hammer?

Bilge xducer…I have had really good success using the JB Weld. type epoxy . I would take some laquer thinner or Acetone and clean the area ….make a dam out of plumbers putty or modeling clay fill the area wth JB and place the Xducer in the well.. I usually take an old sock and put gravel , shot , marbles etc in it and place it on the Xducer….you need something that will conform to the odd shape….. this work for me…. Dont mount a transducer on the outside if you dont have too. The sidefinder is the exception to that statement. I would take a sander or air grinder and get all the old epoxy/resin out of the bilge and remount it. I would also use a slow cure epoxy and be careful of bubbles when you mix the 2 parts. Also the sock trick Gary mentioned is a good one…I normally take plumbers putty and build a damn around the transducer and put the epoxy in there and then put the ducer in there. You can put the sock on it or I have used a 32oz cup w/ sand or rocks in it to weigh down the ducer until it dries…normally the next day. The puck was probably not faced well enough and the transducer glaze did not allow adhesion. We would not worry about the putty in the sump, unless the material is thick. Then we would remove it. The epoxy should allow it to shoot fine in either case for most applications. These units are designed to punch pretty deep and we dont use them to capacity. BCB
