Transom Mount Transducers

I recently purchased the Humminbird 797 with side imaging. The transducer is mounted around the plug on my Cougar FTD. I am now on my fourth bracket and was wondering if anyone had a better idea where to mount the transducer. It always seems to break in rough water. Any ideas???

Most are mounted on the jackplate on right side.Maybe someone will show a pic of mount!BAYOU BANDIT

If you do not have a hydraulic plate, the your best option is the actual transom on the right side. Mount it as low and next to the plate as you can. The pad area is going to be compromised. Eventually a better mounting system will be developed. We have been working on one, and it has been sidelined for various reasons. Mostly that we are working on boat projects and this should be a HumminBird project. BCB

I sense youre trying to keep it mounted low so as to have sonar with the 797 while on plane. Im afraid that may just not be that that feasible with the current state of designs with these huge transducers. But thats just the sacrifice for having the side imaging. However since the side imaging wont make sense at high speed anyway, mounting it higher doesnt seem to me to be that big of a deal. And you can just use the in-dash flasher for the high speed reads, which is what its there for anyway.Just my thoughts, but I could be mis-reading your situation.Deke[font=&QUOT]Deke[/font]

The proper set up for side imaging is to use a transducer switch and a thru hull for running. Then switch for side image scanning at speeds below 5 MPH.BCB

Thanks for all the help. I dont have a hydraulic plate so I guess I will drill some more holes. How can I get the other holes fixed? Do I bring my boat to Basscat? What does something like that cost?
