Trick Step or Easy Step

I have participated in a couple of discussions involving steps over on BBC where those two systems were involved.  Of the two, my choice would be the Easy Step. The reason for that would be because it is more like the BCB, with the pole in front of the bow, on the tongue.  Makes it easier to launch and load if you are by yourself.  With the Trick Step, the pole is off to one side, and actually well behind the point of the bow and would make it more difficult to launch if alone. I am late 60’s, all of my Cats have had factory poles and step ups, and I would never own a boat without them either.

I been thinking  about adding the pole myself. Though ive looked at both these options as well. I like the convenience of each of these as well as the bcb model. Im currious in this topic myself

My only concern would be loading and the bow kicking over. Not a big deal under normal loading, but a shallow ramp and wind could make that interesting. That trick step could do some ugly gelcoat work if that engine is turned a bit to much. Just a thought.

This thought has cross my mind as well. But over last weekend i about went over the front trying to step out. Im definitely gna do something my self. I have the step. Which in my opinion is really of no help without the winch top step and the middle step in the tubing( this one could be a little bigger). Even though i kno its due to the opening of the swing away tongue). Im bad to hold out adding stuff always thimking something new will come out..

With the new S Bend pole when adding how does it hold up add the “slip in pipe”. Any breaking , vibration or trouble keeping the set screw tight??

Buying the optional Grab Bar gets you the step above the winch, but not the small step. As pictured above. This isn’t a big deal for me if I was to purchase one, but my 4’11” wife would not be able to make that step. I figured I could make one out of angled aluminum when I get the Grab Bar option. I will buy one in the future. My Eyra had it, and my wife loved it.

The small step could definitely be larger. I can see as I get older it being n issue.

I  was curious if anyone went forward with one of these after market options.  I’m looking at a 2019 Caracal that doesn’t have grab pole and steps.  I have them on my 07 Classic and because I fish by myself probably 80% of the time mid week (it’s good  to be retired!) I wouldn’t own a Cat without it.

Reading through the comments here I was surprised the add on pole and steps from BCB do not include the small mid step which for me would be a problem (old and short legs).  Also the mechanics of moving brake gear and wiring is a bunch of work you either have to do or pay a dealer to do.  The after market steps avoid that though they aren’t much to look at.  Also wondered if they interfere with swing away tongue?

These just bolt on and the Fulton F-2 winch has a flat top with non slip tape added.

If you have a high school with a descent welding shop it should be a nice project for a grade 12 student.

I would image that it would cost a few bucks for me to ship a set.

Guys I purchased a Trick Step.  Since my original post in 2019 they developed one for a Cougar. Works great for someone at my age.

The BC original step and pole was a great idea but time has passed it by. Have a 19 Lynx. I am old and fat and the pole is WAY TOO SHORT to help me get in the boat AND with the graph(s) and TM they are hard to step over. BC, the longer pole would solve most of this. I have contacted Trick step and they need the angle on the support for the roller and the tubing size to give me a quote to make one. Their grab pole is much longer. I do have a little concern about hitting the  Trick step when loading or launching the boat though. BCB, can you help with the angle and the tubing size? AND BCB, make the poles longer on newer models. The expense would be minimal and the help would be great.
