Tried Mercury Fury

Today with the help from E Ks Marine I was able to try Mercurys new Fury 3 blade prop on my 08 Cougar FTD. Surprisingly things went as advertised. They replaced my 27 trophy that during the colder months was performing very well but as it got warmer performance started to drop off. Hole shot really sucked. The Fury that I ran today was a 26 pitch with two medium size plugs in it with the third hole being empty.With the new Fury, Ive got a hole shot now that with one person will break your neck. With a passenger riding, its still better than I had with the Trophy period! Mid range is also very impressive. Never had very good midrange with the Trophy. Top end , these numbers refleck being on the same body of water within the last two weeks. Remember this is now!, not three months ago. With Tournament load, three fourths of a tank of fuel. Trophy 27, Two people 76ish. One person 78ish 5800 to 5900 Same load, Fury 26, Two people 80ish One person 81ish. Hit 82 once by myself. 6000 to 6050. This was EKs first and only Fury in stock. Now they have none. He and the hole Cat gang couldnt have taken that prop off my boat. It was well worth the $$$. My FTD performs better "over all " right now than it ever has. Sounds like it will be a good prop after all. I was wanting to get one on my PII but I dont know if I would need a 26 or a 25 on it? Did you find that you needed to go down a size with the Fury or could you turn a 27 if they made it?

Going into the summer months I think the 26 is my best bet. My Merc was breathing well today!!!! The 27 might be a bit to much for the 08 FTD but I think the advantage could turn one. For you, I would definitely go with the 25. Glynn

i want to try one on my sabre, iam running a 23 tempest right now, but the new fury only comes in 24,25,26. iam wondering if a 24 might be too much prop for my sabre with a 150 on it, have any of u tried a 24 pitch prop on this set up, and if so how did it work out

Your results are obviously seeming to be good, though did you try a 26 Trophy and the PVS combination first?

Yes, I tried a 26 trophy with various plug combinations, and in no way did it perform as well as the fury!!!!!!!! There was one other thing about the trophy on my rig we didnt understand and that was it would blowout when putting the hammer down and leaving it there as the boat broke over. Both the 26 and 27. No matter what plug combinations along with jack plate adjustments. One hundred percent of the time, we had blowout if we left the throttle in the full position. The only way that we could keep this from happening was after the initial full throttle, before the boat broke over, we pulled the throttle back to three quarter. Doing it this way was the only way my rig would not blowout. Theres no way Im going back with a trophy!!!!! Glynn

We just wanted to know if you tried the Trophy in 26. The slight ventilation will be there on a Trophy when set up to max hole shot. This will vary from rig to rig. They all can be very different on the same combos. All of the rigs we set up have a touch of ventilation when we are done tweaking with Trophies. Tempest are different and from our indications the Fury does kit have ventilation in the blade design and hub.

Glynn, I had the same problem with the Trophy at first, but adding the weed ring stopped the blowout.

basscat4life, I have a 08 Sabre with a 150 Optimax on it. I am running a 24 Tempest. With a tournament load it will turn about 5400-5500 RPMs. Im not sure about the speed because I dont have a GPS. But I feel like the 24 pitch is the way to go. I would think that I would be on the rev limiter with a 23 pitch. What kind of speed and RPMs are you running? I would really like to know what the Fury would make these Sabres do! Be sure to post some info if you try one out.
