I just installed a new Motorguide Tour 82lb 24V motor on my 1998 PII.. In current on high mon. High pass or contiant on. after several minutes it shuts off if you keep you foot on the pedal about 10 to 15 seconds it will come back on. If you back it off from hi with the pedal wheel it will keep running but once on full high it happens. I can tell it a bi metal curcit breaker kicking in an out but not sure if it is the boat or if the motor has one internal.. I tried to reproduce at home but without the drag on the prop it does not happen. Any thoughts on how to check before I tear this thing off and take it back then to find out it was not the motor... I removed a Beast 75lb 24v 36v from the boat and never had THIS problem with that one. .. I know I have the new one wired correct and only 24v going to the new motor

My 56lb use to do that and I went to the boat store and asked that same question and they told me to run 50 amp breakers off of both trolling motor batteries. At that time I had 40 amps on both. I bought two 50s and have not ever had a problem since.

It is the circuit breakers. The older motors did not pull as much power (juice) so the circuit breakers need an upgrade now.

This is a 24V Motor and only one Cable coming to the Front is being used the Red.. I have disconnected the White cable at the main boat Battery. I have found a breaker (red cable) coming off the Rear Battery pos post of the two Batteries on the left side (passenger side) ( 24V 40A) … There is a breaker between the batteries that is Shrink Tubed over and part of the Jumper between batteries does this also have to be replaced. If I am going to replace I would want to do all I need to.. is 50A the right choice.

One 50 Amp in line to the bow should be all that is necessary. The jumper wire should be fine with the 40 amp in line. Assuming that is what you have there. BCB
